Shelton Students gain the art and craft of acting, which lasts for life, and applies to all mediums. They gain the opportunity to discover their true voices and they gain the inspiration to dedicate themselves to working professionally as artists. Developed by national treasure Jean Shelton and Robert Elross. They brought with them from New York an extensive knowledge of method acting from their relationships with Stella Adler (responsible for Brando and De Niro), Harold Clurman (commonly thought of as the finest mind in the American Theatre), and Broadway actor/director Wendell Phillips, among others. Matt Shelton has assembled the finest staff available and thoroughly trained them to teach Jean’s acting technique and multi-disciplinary programs using techniques from American Method Acting masters such as Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, Sanford Meisner, Uta Hagen as well as Russian acting techniques from Micheal Chekhov and Yevgeny Vakhtangov. All our teachers are lifelong director/actor artists.

Acting Workshop (All Levels)
Mondays from Sept. 15th- Nov 3rd
Time: 7-10 pm
Instructor: Julie Dimas-Lockfeld
Tuition: $450
Limited Space
In this 8 week course guided by Julie Dimas-Lockfeld, Students will practice Method based acting techniques passed down from mentors who worked directly with the original New York Group Theatre. Both monologues and 2 person scenes will be memorized as a focus for implementing techniques. We learn a new skill each week to layer into the material. We begin each class with warm up exercises to gain awareness of body, voice and relational presence as a group then proceed with individual scene work. Students will learn how to perceive core motivations within their scripted material and how to make those needs personal by sensing the atmosphere (physical and psychological) of the story and the truthful psycho-physical responses within their own bodies. We practice the skills of giving and receiving communication of deep needs and also how to mask and then reveal them in order to shape our artistic purpose. Students will understand in an experiential way what it means in Method acting language to: Identify the Given Circumstances, have an Objective, play an Action in order to overcome an Obstacle, and to create a revelatory Arc.
