Acting Lab

An Intensive focus on the isolation of acting elements. Concepts such as atmospheres, actions, and body centered work are focused on within the scene study and monologue format. Class concludes with performances before an invited audience. Beginning/Intermediate level. Teacher explores students individual needs and prepares them for immersion into the Studios program.

Script (Action) Analysis

The course will introduce students to theoretical and practical aspects the main elements of Action Analysis, such as the notion of theatricalevent, theatrical action, improvisation, etude, verbal action, physical action, collective action and some others. Particular emphasis of the course is focused on training the students in applying this method in rehearsing and performing process.

Beginning Acting

Fundamental actor training available to actors at all levels of experience including beginners. Focuses on beginning acting techniques within the scene study or monologue format. Class concludes with performances before an invited audience.

Intermediate Acting

Isolation of acting techniques for the more experienced actor. Focus on objectives, beats, and given circumstances. Basic script analysis covered. This course must be repeated for a total of 16 weeks. Class concludes with a performance before an invited audience.

Beginning Acting Intensive

Stanislavsky techniques are established. Fundamental actor training available to actors at all levels of experience including beginners. Focuses on beginning acting techniques within the scene study or monologue format.

Acting Technique 1

An Intensive focus on the isolation of acting elements. Concepts such as beats and objectives are focused on withing the scene study and monologue format. Class concludes with performances before an invited audience.

Scene Study

This is an advanced acting class that ensures the actor has a complete process for creating a role. Principles of directing, and the artists creative will are expanded. Advance through professional levels work out in an envirionment of creativity and accountability. Scene study and monologue format. Class concludes with performances before an invited audience. (Prerequisite Tech 3 or Staff Recommendation)

Acting Elements

Based on Chekhov's pyschological gesture. This course was designed to bring the actor to their fullest potential by expanding and deepening the rehearsal process through muscle memory. The focus is on giving depth to personalization, building the inner and outer life of the character, and creating powerful objectives.
(No prerequisite required)

Script Analysis

A line-by-line analysis of scripts to define the behavior and emotional life of characters. Personalization and authors "ruling idea" are covered.
(Prerequisite not required)

Theater Acting Workshop

This course was designed to enable the actor to develop a lead character in a play. From casting, to rehearsal and tech week, a play is prepared, with the focus being on the actor, for public viewing. This enables them to build experience and begin building credits.

Beginning Film Acting

Focus is on the technique of acting specifically for film and television. Students discover the art and craft of cinematic performance while learning to adapt their skills to the special requirements of the camera. A prepared 1-2 min monologue is required for first class.

Film Acting

Deeper exploration of camera acting technique. Use of text to discover and isolate "experienced" moments on film, with particular emphasis on concentration, relaxation, imagination and listening. Extensive examination of the close-up and reaction shot. This course is designed for intermediate to advanced students. (Prerequisites: Film Acting, Tech 2 or staff recommendation)

Filmmaking

In this course students will collaborate with a professional filmmaker to execute a short film. From pre-production, through production and post, the participants explore the various elements required of filmmaking. By creating actual works of art, a dynamic immersion is put into practice that inspires a true voice.

Film Acting Workshop

Creation of professional quality short films shot in studio and on-location. Students will work with faculty and visiting filmmakers to develop, plan and execute completed works of dramatic quality and high artistic merit, showcasing their talents and gaining material for an actor's reel.
(Prerequisite: Film acting or previous film experience)

Auditioning Course

A step by step process for auditioning preparation. Instructor will demystify the process and create a positive professional approach to auditioning in the acting industry.
(No prerequisite required)

Character Analysis

This intensive workshop is proposed for the advanced level acting students and is particularly focused on the concept of understanding the notion of dramatic character and techniques of its representation on stage within the approach proposed by K. Stanislavsky and developed later on by his followers in Russian theater of the 20 - 21st century. In the course of classes students will be introduced to the specifics of understanding the dramatic character from two different sides: Psychological approach and Mask Approach. Upon such introduction the course will immerse its participants in the practical experience of application of the introduced techniques to different aspects of representation of the dramatic character on stage. Literature and materials used in the course: Michael Chekhov “On the Technique of Acting”, K. Stanislavsky “Actor Prepares”, Literature about “commedia dell’arte” theatrical tradition, Theatrical facial masks
